Choose Acorn’s Bird Deterrent Solutions

Birds are a nuisance in public areas and are known for spreading diseases. Derelict buildings, ledges and roof tops are a few examples of areas providing the perfect roosting ground for birds, including pigeons and gulls.

Not only do bird droppings add to the cleaning costs of commercial and residential buildings, but diseases and mites harbour in these droppings, posing a serious health risk.

Acorn Environment provides solutions, such as pigeon deterrents, to ensure that you can avoid any hazardous health risks. Get in touch to put an end to your bird problems today.

Bird Deterrents and Solutions

There is no single way of getting rid of birds and it will often take a combination of methods to get the desired results.

DIY bird control is not recommended due to the diseases associated with certain species.

The best option is to call bird and pest control professionals to review your requirements and advise on the best form of bird removal and pigeon deterrent.

  • Spiking – Steel spikes affixed to a plastic base prevents birds from landing.
  • Netting – Nylon netting used to exclude birds from certain areas. We have various options, providing a solution for all situations.
  • Solar Panel Mesh – Galvanised mesh affixed to the perimeter of your solar panels, using drill-free clips.
  • Nest Deterrents – Clear acrylic nest deterrents prevent birds from nesting under the eaves of your property. Ideal solution for discretion.

The best way to discourage birds for good is to remove their food sources, however in busy urban areas this is not always a practical solution. If birds are causing a nuisance at your premises there are a number of solutions that Acorn can offer.

Birds can become particularly troublesome in the colder months, when they look for shelter out of the elements. Ensure that your roof is in good order to help deny access.

Removing bird nests and guano cleaning

Laws and regulations restrict the times of the year when bird nests may be removed. It is illegal to remove gulls’ nests once we are in gull nesting season, for example.

If you’re unsure about whether a nest can be removed, contact The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB). Specialist licensing is required to remove a nest so call Acorn Environment to find out more about your options.

Bird guano (or droppings) can contain diseases and other pests, such as mites, so it is strongly advised against cleaning bird-infested areas yourself.

A professional pest control team is certified and equipped to do the work quickly, effectively and safely.

Frequently asked questions

How can Acorn help me with rodents and vermin?

Acorn is a fully licensed, fully insured and fully accredited service with over 30 years’ experience in providing effective solutions to eradicate and prevent the pest infestations from rodents, vermin and insects. Each pest query or concern is well considered and thoroughly surveyed by our expert team to ensure all business and property owners receive the best advice and course of action.

Why are birds considered vermin?

Birds are considered vermin for several reasons including their ability to spread diseases and damage properties. Not unlike rats, birds can carry ectoparasites such as mites which can be transferred to humans and cause diseases such as E. Coli, Salmonella and Ornithosis. While bird nests can dislodge roof tiles and leave debris in drains and gutters, their droppings are highly corrosive and can damage your home interiors. More so, bird nests attract other pests such as bird mites, fleas and textile beetles, meaning a bird problem can sometimes lead to further pest infestations.

What type of birds are considered vermin?

Feral pigeons, seagulls, house sparrows, collared doves and black-backed gulls are among the birds that are considered vermin.

What treatments do Acorn use to prevent vermin?

Acorn provides effective yet discreet deterrent solutions such as spiking, strips, nets and shoots to undertake the removal of all pests with minimum fuss and disruption.
